Why Narragansett Town Beach Should Be Your Vacation Hub

Between communities like Cape Cod, Nantucket, Hampton Beach, Plum Island, and the Connecticut Shoreline, there’s no shortage of great beaches throughout New England.

However, South County’s Narragansett Town Beach is right there with them, with many visitors ranking it as the top waterfront destination on the East Coast.

There are many reasons for that designation, as the location, accessibility, weather, and facilities come together to create a first-class vacation destination. The beach also overlooks the mouth of Narragansett Bay, which provides a beautiful backdrop while enjoying a day in the sun.

Here are some reasons you might consider making Narragansett Town Beach a central part of your next South County vacation.

Facilities at the Beach

Although Narragansett only has a year-round population of about 15,000 people, it isn’t rare for 10,000 people to visit Narragansett Town Beach on the weekend in the summer. The beach is trendy, and there are many reasons locals and vacationers alike love this venue.

First, there’s the beach’s golden sand, which is soft, beautiful, and a great place to relax for the day.

There are 19 acres of space at the beach, as it extends one mile from the mouth of the Pettaquamscutt River to Ocean Road. This size provides enough room to spread out and enjoy yourself. You can also enjoy views over the bay while you sit in the sand or focus on the ships rolling in and out of the bay.

The beach is one of New England’s best surfing destinations, too. Its location at the mouth of the bay means it’s ideally situated to catch some waves, although you’ll be happy to know there are lifeguards on duty to help keep you safe.

You’ll find multiple snack bars, washrooms and change rooms, and two pavilions at Narragansett Town Beach, as well, and there’s always an event taking place that gives you good reason to give it a visit during your vacation.
