Booking a South County vacation rental in the middle of February puts you in line to spend Valentine’s Day in the region. You’ll have plenty of events to attend in the days before and after February 14, and there are some great things to do on the big day itself, as well.
Of course, you could opt to stay in and cook dinner at your vacation rental instead of heading out. After all, you’ll have a full kitchen, and South County has some great seafood markets that remain open in the winter.
If you do choose to go out, it’s worth looking into your options before you arrive. Here’s a look at what you can expect for Valentine’s Day 2023 in South County, Rhode Island.
Dinner at Ocean House
Whenever there’s a holiday, you just know Ocean House will have an event. This venue in Watch Hill is one of South County’s most active spots, and you’ll have three different options if you’re searching for a special dinner for Valentine’s Day in 2023.
Coast, Ocean House’s five-star restaurant, is hosting Valentine’s Day dinners on February 10, 11, and 12 between 5:30 and 9:00 PM. You can reserve your seating online through their website, and the meal costs $175 per person, plus $125 for a wine pairing or $250 for a grand wine pairing.
Your dinner at Coast will be an experience you won’t soon forget, and the atmosphere will be memorable, too, thanks to the presence of harpist Faith Letner.
Carriage Rides at The Preserve Sporting Club
The Preserve Sporting Club is a little out of the way in Richmond, Rhode Island, but their Valentine’s Day carriage rides make it worth the journey. These rides will be available on February 11 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM and will take you on a romantic journey around this historic property on a horse-drawn carriage.
The experience includes your choice of breakfast or lunch at the on-site restaurant and a glass of champagne as you cuddle up with your significant other in the carriage. This event costs $199 per couple, but you can make the ride private for an additional $99. Otherwise, you might have to share with another couple.
Candlelight Dinner at the Coast Guard House
The Coast Guard House Restaurant in Narragansett is a historic venue every South County visitor must check out at least once. The food is excellent, especially their seafood selection, and the elegant atmosphere ensures you can relax while enjoying your meal.
This restaurant currently has a promotion called Candlelight Nights, where you can enjoy dinner in the light of a seasonally-themed candle display. These dinners take place on the second Tuesday of every month but will extend to a daily schedule between February 8 and 14. This restaurant is incredibly popular, so book your table early if you’re interested in a candlelight dinner on Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day Dinner at the Weekapaug Inn
The Weekapaug Inn in Westerly is hosting a special Valentine’s Day dinner on February 14 that’s sure to leave you satisfied. There are seatings between 5:00 and 9:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to check them out, and you can book the entire experience online.
The dinner is a four-course meal featuring tuna Crudo, black truffle tagliatelle, surf and turf with butter-poached lobster, and a chocolate pie for dessert. You’ll love the food, and at $120 per person, it’s reasonably priced for the quality you’ll receive. A wine pairing is available for an additional fee, as well.
Stargazing at the Frosty Drew Observatory
If you’ve never been to the Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown before, the weekend before or after Valentine’s Day is as good a time to check them out as any. The Sky Theater is open on February 10 and 17, giving you the opportunity to use a high-powered telescope to view the rings of Saturn, the craters of the moon, the Milky Way, and various star clusters.
You don’t need tickets to attend the event; admission is by donation, with $5 being the suggested amount. The doors typically open at 7:00 PM in the winter, and you can stick around until 10:00 if you’re enjoying the experience.
This stargazing event isn’t necessarily special for Valentine’s Day, but it remains an excellent way to spend an evening in Charlestown this winter.
