Vacationing in South Kingstown, RI, is a wonderful experience, especially if you book a vacation rental near East Matunuck State Beach or one of the town’s other oceanfront gems.

Ocean Mist
You don’t have to venture far from East Matunuck State Beach to experience some nightlife, as Ocean Mist is just down the road. This oceanfront bar enjoys a prime location and has live music almost every night of the week in the summer.
The bar also has an extensive food menu with burgers, pizza, seafood, and burritos, in addition to one of South Kingstown’s best beer lists.
Ocean Mist is open until 1:00 AM every night of the week during the summer, and there’s usually dancing during their concerts.
The Pub at Matunuck
Another option near East Matunuck State Beach is The Pub at Matunuck, which is next door to Ocean Mist. This bar is a little more laid back than its neighbor but has karaoke on its rooftop deck on Sunday nights and live music on Saturdays.
The menu at The Pub features soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and seafood, and their martini menu is second to none. You can also get fishbowl drinks to share as a group if you come with family or friends.
The Pub at Matunuck is open until 1:00 AM every night of the summer, but keep in mind that the kitchen closes at 9:00 PM.
Mews Tavern
Main Street in downtown Wakefield-Peacedale is lined with restaurants, and any of them would make a great starting point. If you’re looking to make a night of it, though, the Mews Tavern is worth a shot.
This pub is quirky and has a dive bar appeal, but the food is outstanding. It also has an extensive tap list, three separate bars, and a large dining room.
The Mews Tavern is open seven days a week until 1:00 AM and even has a late-night food menu so you can order something to eat until midnight. You’re truly missing out if you don’t check this Main Street bar out at least once while vacationing in South County.
Two Ten Oyster Bar & Grill
Marina Park is an area just south of downtown Wakefield-Peacedale that, as you might expect, is full of marinas. These marinas are right on Point Judith Pond, which provides access to Block Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.
Marina Park is also home to Two Ten Oyster Bar & Grill, a trendy waterfront restaurant with live music Wednesday through Monday in the summer, buck-a-shuck oysters, and a famous lobster roll you need to try.
The music at Two Ten Oyster Bar & Grill typically starts at 6:00 PM on weekends and continues until about 10:00, giving you time to head elsewhere after taking in a show with your dinner.
Whalers Brewing Company
No matter where you visit in South County, there’s a good chance there will be products from Whalers Brewing Company on tap. However, you can also head directly to the brewery, just north of downtown Wakefield-Peacedale, for a pint or two.
The brewery has a large taproom with pool tables and cornhole stations, making it worth a stop if you’re looking for some good-natured fun in a laid-back environment. As a bonus, you can grab some Whalers beer to enjoy later at your vacation rental.
Old Mountain Lanes
Downtown Wakefield-Peacedale is also home to Old Mountain Lanes, a bowling alley with cosmic bowling every night until 1:00 AM. This late-night bowling experience is popular with vacationers because you can grab a beer or two while you play and enjoy some food from the on-site diner.
There’s an arcade at Old Mountain Lanes, too, giving your the rare chance to act like a kid and play some video games while on vacation in South County.
Making the Most of Your Time Away
Although there isn’t much of a club scene in South Kingstown, there are plenty of great bars with live music and other entertainment options. You can keep busy every night of the week if you wish or head out a couple of times during your South County vacation.
