One of the best things about booking a South County vacation rental is that you’ll have access to a private kitchen to prepare meals. However, you’ll have to stock that kitchen with your favorite foods, which could involve a trip or two to the grocery store.

As you search the area, you’ll come across many different retailers and a collection of markets where you can grab fresh meat, produce, and other items grown or raised right in Rhode Island.
One such spot is Whaley Farm Market, a small roadside stand in South Kingstown that has everything you’re looking for and more. This market is well-known with locals and a location you’ll want to check out at least once.
Here’s what you need to know about Whaley Farm Market in South County, Rhode Island.
What You’ll Find at the Market
First of all, you should know that Whaley Farm Market is tiny. It isn’t a full-blown market, but a small stand that doesn’t carry many items and tends to run out of certain products later in the day.
You’ll only find in-season vegetables at Whaley Farm Market, so the inventory depends on the time of year you visit.
At some points, they’ll have carrots, radishes, lettuce, and potatoes, and later in the year, you might find eggplants, corn, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, and squash. They get blueberries, apples, and watermelon sometimes, too. You’ll know everything is fresh, though, because most items are grown on-site at the farm.
In addition to the produce, you can pick up honey, maple syrup, cheese, and frozen desserts from Rhode Island-based producers, and there’s local club soda in the cooler, too.
Or, if you’re looking for some protein, pork chops and sausage from pigs raised on-site are available throughout the year.
The best advice is to visit Whaley Farm Market to see what they currently have in stock because you won’t find fresher or better quality produce anywhere in South County.
How to Get to Whaley Farm Market
Although it sounds like it might be off the beaten path, Whaley Farm Market is actually easily accessible. It’s just off Highway 1 between Marina Park and Charlestown, so you can get there from any South County location in a matter of minutes.
All you do is take Route 1 until you reach Jerry Brown Farm Road. There will be signs directing you when to turn. The stand is at the first left after you exit the highway.
Hours of Operation
Whaley Farm Market isn’t like most businesses, as they don’t have regular operating hours. In fact, there’s a sign inside the stand stating that opening time is whenever someone shows up, and closing time is when they decide to pack up for the night.
However, typically, the stand opens at around 10:00 AM and remains that way until at least 4:00 PM. If they still have produce left, they’ll usually stay open until about 6:00 PM.
You should know, though, that the stand’s most popular items tend to run out early in the day, so arriving as close to opening time as possible is recommended if you’re looking for something in particular.

Whaley Farm Market is a top option because of the quality of produce they sell. There’s no telling what you’ll find when you visit, but it’ll be fresh and delicious, helping you make an excellent meal whenever you decide to cook on your upcoming vacation.
